After COVID-19, in the autumn, my grandmother returned to her old house, located in a neighborhood that had been awaiting demolition for years—a silent place covered in dust. There, she discovered her child’s diary, in which were recounted the mysteries of a bygone world and distant lands she had never heard of. Today, her child has also grown old, and many mysteries of the past have already been unraveled. Although the world is evolving at great speed, some things seem to remain motionless. Individual life is built through gaps and differences, but often, it lacks the time to be contemplated. When daily life is constantly dominated by the power of ideologies, what is left for the individual? 　　L’automne après le COVID, ma grand-mère est retournée dans sa vieille maison, située dans un quartier promis à la démolition depuis des années, un lieu silencieux et couvert de poussière. Hannah’s first week in the US isn’t going as expected. Rejected by everyone she meets, even her own friend, it seems nobody has time to practice English with her. So when she’s propositioned by a couple looking for a phone sex participant, Hannah uses the conversation as an opportunity to finally get some English practice in. However, as the phone call progresses, Hannah realises that this is a situation where online translators just won’t cut it, and she’s going to have to get resourceful with her vocab book if she wants to help this couple cum like a true fluent English speaker.
